I read the book and researched it. The book he is talking about is called Flamer. Theres a lot of miscontext that the dad put. For one that’s not a “kids” book it’s a graphic novel made for teens 14 and up. That book is not showing up in elementary schools or middles schools but is appearing in high school. With the little context shown it seems bad but it’s really not, especially when you compare this to priests forcing their kids to attend “Bible study” to read a book that talks about much more controversial things like, murder, rape, slavery, etc. all Flamer is about is the life of a gay teen who grows up in a catholic household and goes to public school.

I'd stand alone because the man's job is to protect his church, his wife. You protect your family first. In the bible, women aren't allowed in combat. Staying and putting your wife in danger is a sin and just plain stupid. Love her like Christ loves the church. And we are not to give what is Holy to the dogs or cast our pearls before swine, lest we be torn to pieces and trodden under foot by men. You need wisdom before you preach a misleading message.
